Marie Antoinette-esque

Well, I was having a hard time figuring out what in the world to blog today...not for lack of a million great things to choose from, but because it's Good Friday, and heading into the Easter weekend I thought I should do something to address the festivities.

But I couldn't find anything specific to Easter that thrilled me enough to share...

It is such a spiritually significant weekend for me, that all the eggs and bunnies and spring-y type themes just don't do the event I'm celebrating justice...not even close.

So on a very un-Easterly note, I did, however, stumble across a few pictures on Bluelines today of a truly fabulous party hosted by Shane, the senior home editor for Blueprint magazine. To celebrate a friend's birthday, he threw a seriously fashionable fete together, centered around the theme "imaginative Versailles".

Head over to the Bluelines blog for more pictures and all the beautiful details. This idea has my head spinning! I LOVED Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette...the way she showcased the story was so imaginative...the costumes, makeup and set are the best I've ever seen for a movie. I've wanted to somehow interpret this in my own life...I've thought about decorating a room inspired from the visuals in the movie, but I'm worried I'll get tired of it after a while. And besides, the rest of my home is all about clean, unfussy lines for the most part...so a room based on abundance and oppulance would look pretty out of place...I think it could be done, but back to worry number 1, I'm afraid I'd grow tired of it too soon to justify it.

So a party, in my mind, is just the ticket. I may have to steal a few of Shane's ideas {the roses, the cotton candy centerpiece, the masks...and the beautiful portrait of our muse herself over the buffet} and combine them with a bunch that I have after being inspired by the movie. I especially love the way Shane softened the floors of the all-white loft with confetti...what a great idea!! Although we'll see if I take it that far... I'm always the hostess + cleaning crew, so I doubt I'd be up for that mess...but who knows...I'm sure the effect is worth the effort.

Anyway, make sure stop by Bluelines and check out Shane's post {entitled Birthday Buffet a la Versailles}...

Have a wonderful Easter!! Love, Erin

I stumbled upon your blog by accident, actually, and as I was reading what you wrote, I was so happy to read about another Believer out in blogland. What a wonderful tool for witnessing to people. You are right- our nation has totally lost sight of the real meaning behind Easter (and Christmas as well).
